The goals of the Information Security Office are:

- Align the University’s information security efforts to support its mission while supporting privacy, legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations.
- Promote awareness of information security risks and responsibilities.
- Collaborate with other organizations and institutions to increase awareness, knowledge, and sharing of information security information.
- Maintain an awareness of relevant requirements, technologies, and risks to continuously improve this program.
The Information Security Office also works to align security practices with privacy, legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements, while continuously evaluating emerging risks and technologies to strengthen the university’s overall security program.
Information Security Services
MUIT Information Security strongly recommends using antivirus software and keeping operating systems up-to-date. Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection is an antivirus/anti-malware software solution which is offered to all Marshall-owned devices. Students and employees can use free antivirus software (KB Article) on personally owned devices.
